The Hurricane Ida storm system strolled into Asheville Tuesday night and hovered all day Wednesday. Undeterred, we decided not to spend the day in a hotel room. Our first stop was the brand new Pet Soup animal shelter highlighted in our previous blog post.
Next, we waded out to an off-leash dog park located in French Broad River Park. The dog run was smallish, but did have sitting benches and a water supply (other than the rain). Buster enjoyed the romp and was not about to let some puddles slow him down.
It's been raining ... alot. Just how deep is this water?
Hungry? We drove over to Kathleen’s Tea Room, a place we learned about on Twitter. This was a new experience for me, as I never “had tea” before. In fact, there was a separate menu just for the tea! But it turned out that the tea and the food were both quite excellent, and the service was paced so you could enjoy the entire contents of your own personal tea pot. Open and honest, we left Ty and Buster in the car because the dog friendly outdoor dining was not set up due to the cool temperatures. However, the sprawling porch was covered (nice!) and would have easily accommodated several pooches. This place gets two duclaws up for delicious food, southern hospitality, and pet friendliness.

The front porch ...
and the side porch are both pet friendly.
After lunch, we headed over to another off-leash dog park on Azalea Road where Ty and Buster got even more exercise. This canine corral was one of the largest I’ve seen and had separate play areas for small and large dogs. You do need to bring your own water.
Lesson for the day … rain happens. Pack and plan appropriately so you don’t have to sit and stay!
