Being flexible pays off. We wanted to visit the Biltmore Estate on Wednesday afternoon, but remnants of Hurricane Ida kept that from happening. On Thursday morning we awoke to clearing skies in Asheville. So instead of leaving first thing for Nashville, we hung out at Biltmore for a few hours.
Biltmore is situated on 8,000 acres. Completed in 1895 for George Vanderbilt II, the French-style chateau has 250 rooms (175,000 square feet) and is the largest privately owned home in the US. The bad news – it costs $60 per person to get into Biltmore whether or not you tour the home. The good news – dogs are free, and the Frederick Law Olmstead-designed grounds are dog friendly. And just a note … kennels are available in parking lot C so you can tour the house sans doggies and walk the grounds with them later!

We meandered around the grounds and gardens and then hiked the Deer Park Trail, a 2.4 mile round trip jaunt. Great exercise for Ty and Buster.

Tonight, we are staying at the Sheraton Music City in Nashville – the only no-fee, pet friendly hotel in the area. We got upgraded to a suite … sweet!

I had no idea Biltmore was pet-friendly, and we visit relatives outside Asheville multiple times each year!
